The Muscovy duck can be recognised by the red skin on its head (from the base of the beak to the neck), particularly in the male. The latter also has an extension of skin on its beak, which is not the case for the female. When it is angry or feels in danger, the Muscovy duck raises a crest of feathers at the top of its head.
